About the Candidate

HELLO….
I am Sharon Calvert, I am your neighbor! I have lived in Hillsborough County for 35 years, raising my two girls in our County Schools, attending events at our Parks, and exercising throughout our neighborhoods. My husband Mark and I settled in Hillsborough County because of the work opportunities and American quality of life where we wanted to raise our family.
My business career has spanned 30 years in the private sector managing people and projects in IT and Telecom. My experience includes: Billing Operations Management and Project Management of strategic billing initiatives.
Financial experience includes Budgeting and Trend Analysis. I currently am a Business Analyst using best practices to implement improvements in business processes.

While I was busy in a career, raising my family and building my life in this community some things began to change, not all for the better. I, like you, read the headlines in the Tribune or Times too many times about corruption of local government officials and wondered what is happening to my community
During this time I have seen both nationally and locally governments become too big and too dominating in our lives. Mark and I were watching our chosen home become more like the communities I see on the evening news rather than the one where we chose to raise our daughters.
I decided I could no longer sit on the sidelines and decided to stand up for what I believe in, We the People! No, not only against bigger, less efficient government in Washington D.C., but also right here at home.
I chose to stand up and help build the Local Tea Party here in Hillsborough County to fight National Government issues, and soon thereafter helped to build the Citizen Coalition to fight the boondoggle of Light Rail in Hillsborough County.
I have had the opportunity to work with Governor Scott to stop the High Speed Rail, a project that would only add to our deficits during a time we are already trillions in debt. I had the honor of testifying at the House Transportation Committee Congressional Stakeholder Hearing representing the taxpayer.
I believe that at the root of our problems is the idea of career politicians. Those who seek to build a career moving from office to office, motivated to increase the size of government to help secure a future employment.
I pledge to you right now, that I am not a Career Politician, that I am a 'CITIZEN not a Politician'!
I thank you for your financial support and your vote.
Sincerely,
Sharon
